Mr. Kirkland went on assignment to film Coco Chanel in 1962 and ended up forming a tremendous bond, actually living with her for three weeks while filming. Kirkland has photographed other beloved icons and luminaries such as Marilyn Monroe, Man Ray, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor and numerous others.

Oh yes, I will definitely add this book to my library! There are few designer's clothing lines that are still classics years later yet a Chanel suit from the 60's is still in style in the 2000's! My mom strongly believed in investing in your wardrobe and after she passed, I found clothes from the 50's and 60's that were still stylish and classic today, and almost looked brand new, she took such good care of them!

ReplyDeleteI would have LOVED to know and chat (in French, of course) with this innovative and brave woman. Her style is sleek and simple, but oozes out sophistication to this day. I think the less frill, the more of the woman can come out, and she found that. She struck gold.

Yes, this has been one busy school year and it's winding down, but there are still some lose ends to deal with this week and the beginning of next week. I will be on a small vacation but I hope to continue to work on my blog book AND even return to blogging, but only posting once a month. I can't stay away from this community!

I wanted to let you know a you things that I'm not sure you're aware of about your profiles – First, when you write a comment on a blog it is a "no reply" email address so no one is able to respond directly. Second, on your Google plus page, none of your posts have links to the blog post. If you look at my page I think you'll see what I mean – I honestly have no idea how I set it up but the links have always been automatic. ReplyDeleteKarena, I have been "looking" at books on Coco Chanel and haven't been able to decide which one to purchase for sometime. Mr. Kirklands photography is intimate, up close and not static or posed giving you a look into her world in a way the other books don't offer. ReplyDeleteI never tire of coco, a book, a movie, a commercial, a featured magazine layout... Everyone wanted to wear coco.
My mom also who could sew would copy off designs, and patterns making fashion forward suits for herself and heavy strans of costume pearls. I love her mini movies commercials on you tube so fun to watch.

ReplyDeleteEeeek! A must-have for me! I LOVE CHANEL and the CC logo is my unofficial stylish monogram for my name -Claravel Criste! My husband asked me once why I love Chanel so much, I just told him other than it's timeless appeal, I would rather wear my monogram in style!
