Beth Cosner Jewelry Designs

New Lucite Pendants
Beth designs dynamic jewelry exploring color and texture through the use of precious gemstones, freshwater pearls, and lucite. She works in sterling silver as well as 14K gold filled and gold vermeil.

KA: Beth when did you begin to design jewelry?

BC: In high school at Shawnee Mission East. I enrolled in Metalsmithing with Mr. Crawford. At Kansas University I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. KU has the oldest Metalsmithing Department in the country.

KA:You then went for further education on the west coast is that right?

BC: Yes, I entered the Gemological Institute in Carlsbad California and became a Graduate jeweler.
Beth Cosner Studio

KA: What inspired you then and now? You really have an amazing artistic sense of color.

BC: I started attending Gem Shows in California. I have been to many in the ensuing years. I love to design and have so many ideas in my head I cannot even complete them all! I love color, color, color. I start creating and one thing leads to another. The raw materials and the different seasons inspire me.

KA: You are also working with some new materials I see.

BC: Yes I have started some pieces out of colorful lucite which has been fun. I am now creating custom charms for special occasions, and using hammered gold and silver. I love doing wedding jewelry ensembles of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. I do a lot of custom work for different special occasions.

KA: What jewelry shows and exhibits do you have scheduled?

BC: The Prairie Village Art Fair 2010 will take place on June 4th, 5th & 6th. I will be located at Booth #62

The Towne Center Art Fair is on June 18th, 19th, and 20th. There I will be set up in Booth#119.

KA: Is your jewelry available in any galleries and boutiques?

BC: Yes, locally I am in Scandia Down on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. My jewelry is sold at Rivers Bend Gallery in Parkville, Missouri and Barucci gallery in St. Louis Missouri. Also both Accenti Gallery in Des Moines, Iowa and The Dahm Jewelry Gallery in Solana Beach, California.

KA: Beth how can you be reached by those interested in your jewelry?

BC: Contact me at 913-481-3179 or email me at bcosdesigns@aol.com

KA: Beth, thank you so much!

Beth is also looking at further upscale retail representation.

Karena, so sorry for the knee-jerk reaction. I get lots of comments that are generic and they drive me nuts but I really really appreciate your explanation!! It's weird, now that I have written that entry i almost don't care what others think when I take pictures in the middle of the street. Almost, that is. So I will keep in mind what you said. By the way, are the landscapes below yours? If so, you have a really unique take on the world. I like it.

As an anthropologist, I am drawn to the way that we interpret a seemingly objective scene in so many different ways (take the way we depict rain with a raindrop versus how the Maya depicted it with vertical blue wavy lines) and I have to say that you readily break convention and depict what you see with creativity.

Kind regards,

Tori
